Finding the means to place Finnish higher education and research on the global map

Knowing how to make the right decisions in both national and international cooperation and networking is imperative. International higher education and research gives Finland a better competitive edge and our highly knowledgeable society a means to regenerate itself. It also brings us more competencies and new information on how to tackle global issues, which are often multidisciplinary in nature.

On 28 April 2016 Minister Sanni Grahn-Laasonen appointed a steering group to formulate an international policy approach for higher education and research. This work builds on the vision in Prime Minister Sipilä's government programme, which envisages Finland as open and international society, rich in languages and culture. This government aims to ensure that education and research is more international than before and existing obstacles to education exports are removed. This think tank is part of the efforts to bringing more international content into higher education and research. The results will serve as a valuable source in formulating our policy approach.

Various challenges to internationalisation in Finland’s higher education and research have already been identified, but this think tank challenges you to single out new targets and tools for making higher education and research more international.

What do you believe we need to do differently and what have we so far failed to notice nationally? Let us know what you think and weigh up the ideas of other people. All answers will remain strictly anonymous.

We believe we should shape the future together. So join us and encourage others to do so too.
